Dec 19, 2009: To recreate Thiruvaiyaru in Chennai and capture the spirit of Carnatic music, Lakshman Sruthi has been organising Chennaiyil Thiruvaiyaru for the past four years.

The fifth edition of the music festival was inaugurated at Kamaraj Arangam on Friday evening by Union Information and Broadcasting Minister S Jagatrakshagan.

In his address, the Minister said Lakshman Sruthi had “touched a peak in music in the last five years” by bringing the Thiruvaiyaru festival to Chennai.

The stage has been done up to resemble the Thyagaraja aradhanai mandapam in Thiruvaiyaru. On the inaugural day, saint composer Thyagaraja’s pancharatna kritis were sung.

The eight-day event is being organised by Lakshman Sruthi in association with Nataka Academy, Rotary Club of Madras Mount and Kalalaya USA., at Kamarajar Arangam from 9 am to 10 pm.
