Union Minister of State for Information and
Broadcasting S Jagathratchagan has said by bringing
the Thiruvaiyaru Festival to Chennai, Lakshman
Sruthi, a music troupe, has touched a peak.
Launching the fifth edition of Chennaiyil
Thiruvaiyaru in the city yesterday, the Union
Minister said that it was phenomenal.
On the inaugural day, saint composer Thyagaraja’s
pancharatna kritis were sung and the stage had been
done up to resemble the Thyagaraja Aradhanai
Mandapam in Thiruvaiyaru.
An exhibition of music albums by various artistes is
also on as part of the festival. Books, DVDs and CDs
on various genres of music are available.
The eight-day event is being organised by Lakshman
Sruthi in association with Nataka Academy, Rotary
Club of Madras Mount and Kalalaya USA at Kamarajar
Arangam from 9 a m to 10 p m. Tickets are also
