Recreating Thiruvaiyaru

It’s always a delight to listen to Thyagaraja kritis especially Pancharathna kritis, rendered at Thiruvaiyaru on Thyaga Brahma Aradhanai Day. Musicians and music lovers from all over the world converge at the place to render the kritis. It may not be possible for all to go to Thiruvaiyaru. This made Lakshman Sruthi Musicals, Kalalaya USA, Nataka Academy and Rotary Club of Madras Mount, to conduct a Thiruvaiyaru festival in Chennai.

Chennaiyil Thiruvaiyaru 2008 was inaugurated on Saturday.

The magic of Thiruvaiyaru was recreated at Kamarajar Arangam, with the rendition of Thyagarajar’s Pancharathna kritis. The event saw a number of rasikas who gathered to listen to the kritis.

Renowned musician P S Narayanaswamy led the musicians and music enthusiasts who rendered the Pancharatna kritis. The six-day music festival will have a total of 32 programmes.

On Monday, vocalist Gayathri Girish will perform at 10.30 am, followed by vocalist Harish at 1 pm. Next it would be Revathy Krishna (Veena) at 2.45 pm, followed by vocalist Ranjani Gayathri’s performance at 4.45 pm. Kadri Gopalnath will enthral the audience on the saxophone at 7.30 pm.

On Tuesday, vocalist O S Thyagarajan will perform at 10.30 am, followed by Madhumitha Srinivasan’s performance (vocal and keyboard) at 1 pm. Vocalist Mahathi’s performance will be at 2.45 pm and it will be followed by P Unnikrishnan’s concert at 4.45 pm. Sriram Parasuram and Anuradha Sriram’s (Hindustani Carnatic Jugalbandhi) will perform at 7.30 pm.

On Wednesday, Sikkil Gurucharan will perform at 10.30 am, followed by vocalist Lavanya Sundarraman at 1 pm.

Vocalists Carnatica Brothers and Palaghat Sriram will perform at 2.45 pm and this will be followed by vocalist Aruna Sairam’s concert at 4.45 pm. At 7 . 3 0 p m , Ku m a re s h Ganesh(Violin) will perform.

On the last day of the event, Ghatam Karthick and Keyboard Sathyanarayanan - Heart Beat Ensemble - will be held at 10.30 am, followed by vocalist Ganesh’s performance at 1 pm.

Vocalist Shoba Chandrasekar will perform at 2.45 pm and Srikala Bharath’s dance performance will be held at 4.45 pm and the event will end with vocalist Sudha Ragunathan’s concert at 7.30 pm.
