Rare honour for Sanjay Subrahmanyam

The Music Academy in association with the Indira Sivasailam Endowment Fund, established in memory of Smt Indira Sivasailam, has instituted an annual memorial concert by a renowned classical musician who would also be presented a medal and a citation. The recipient of this year’s award is Sanjay Subrahmanyan.

Sanjay Subrahmanyan began learning music at the age of seven. Initial training was under V Lakshminarayana on the violin as well as in vocal music. He later switched to vocal music and was trained by Rukmini Rajagopalan for a period of almost eight years. His skills were further honed under Calcutta K S Krishnamurthy which led to innovations and blending of tradition and modernity. Sanjay continues to learn from Nadaswaram maestro Semponarkoil SRD Vaidyanathan.

Sanjay places a special emphasis on teaching music, and has a number of successful young students. He has enthralled audiences across the world, winning numerous accolades and awards. The event will be held at the Music Academy on the 6 October 2011.
