Hailing
from a legendary family of musicians attached to the
Royalty of former Cochin State, G.Ramanathan is the
5th generation musician. Ramanathan had his early
training in Vocal, Violin, Mridangam and ganjira
from his father the living legend of Indian music
Prof.T.V.Gopalakrishnan, popularly known as TVG .An
artists with a natural flair for all instruments
Ramanathan learnt the techniques from the Saxophone
Samrat Kadri Gopalnath, who is also a senior
disciple of Prof.TVG.
Sri.Ramanathan graduated in Indian music from the
prestigious madras university and in Western music
from the Trinity college of Music, London.
Ramanathan’s early music career began with the
blessings of the music wizard Ilaiyaraja, with whom
he worked for over 15 years as also other popular
music directors in the film world.
Along with this career, Ramanathan has evolved a
style of his own meticulously guided by his father
and Guru Sri.TVG – a style which is a blend of the
mellifluous gayaki and the grandeur of the magic
sax. He has now been working on the Midi sax, which
is a very versatile and handy instrument with
unlimited creative potential.
Ramanathan has been performing all over India and
abroad- UK, Europe, Australia and Middle East. He
has been composing music for documentaries & tele
films. He recently scored music with great success
for a stage production in Dance/music involving
Indian and British musicians. All his concerts have
had rave reviews. A few are attached.
Ramanathan has also toured with father in
performances, jazz, fusion etc in festivals in
Europe and Australia, doing many roles like
Mridangam, ganjira, sax, violin and voice and
keyboard. He is also a committed teacher in music in
the Academy of Indian music and arts, Vidyaapeetam,
Chennai.
